Scary Moment....

So, I will start this out by clarifying that me and baby are ok so you don't have to read the whole thing to figure it out.

I have been having pretty bad indigestion for about two weeks and finally caved yesterday and called Dr. Callison to get some prescription medicine for it. I took the first dose of Protonix yesterday before dinner time. After dinner I was having trouble and trey said that it would take 3-4 days for the medicine to kick in and that I could and should still take tums. This is where it pays to have a pharmacist on hand ;) I got some tums down and felt ok but not great. I also was coughing up some foam (gross I know) after dinner which is just from all the acid I am guessing.

Fast forward to about 11:30 pm when I am brought straight out of the bed by a smothering type of feeling. At first I felt like I was dreaming then I realized I really could not catch my breath. I pretty much panicked first off then snapped to it and started trying to get some air flow. I jumped straight up and started pacing and was also gagging but not really trying to throw up. It was so weird. Once I finally caught my breath I was still coughing and was left with an acid taste in my throat and mouth. I could not sleep so I went to the computer and did some Web MD looking for stuff about acid reflux. All symptoms pointed to that.

So, at about midnight I called my mom. Her and my dad have struggled with this for some time and I remember a few episodes with them that resembled what I had. Mom reassured me that it would be fine and told me to prop up and to just calm down as much as I could now that I know what could have caused it.

I called Dr. Callison this morning and she agreed that this could have been the culprit. She said if you swallow a good dose of acid it will certainly take your breath away. She suggested that I take Maalox and Pepcid with the Protonix until the Protonix has time to fully take effect in 4 days or so. She also suggested I sleep sitting up in a chair and then asked me how I felt about that. Well, what do you say.....no I would love to wake up feeling strangled again in the night? So, I shall do whatever it takes to avoid that feeling as much as possible. Hopefully, I will not have to sleep sitting straight up the entire rest of the pregnancy but we'll just see how it goes.

It was scary but definitely something I should be able to control and I can only hope it goes away once Cooper gets here since I have never had anything like this happen before pregnancy. On Tuesday I will be 26 weeks and getting ready for the third trimester so we are definitely closing in!

We bought bedding this past week too. I will post pics when it comes in which should be this coming week!!

Oh Bri! I'm so happy that you are alright. I can only imagine how scary that must have been!!!! I hope that the medicine kicks in soon and that you will get some relief. I take Protonix too and it is really good. :)

How scary! I had lots of indigestion while pregnant (which I never had much before and don't much anymore now). Nothing as bad as that, though. Hopefully that new medicine will start giving you some relief. I'm glad you're ok...and Cooper, too. :)

I sent once but don't think it came. Ms. Paula can tell you about Tucker, my 23-weeker grandson, who is now nine years old and nearly as tall as I am, straight-A student and athlete! He weighed a pound and a half and his head was the size of a tangerine, I lost him in the blanket the first time I held him (at 2 months) and when he snuggled up against me he stopped breathing - the nurse said a little TOO comfy. He's in speech therapy but we think it's his Cajun accent! They live near Mobile--from Mary
