Do you ever have one of those moments when the stars seem to align and you wonder if what you just did, thought, planned could really work out so easily? Yeah, we had one of those a few weeks ago.
Some friends drove over from Florence and we had a wonderful evening catching up and just enjoying our time with them. At the end of the evening we started talking about their upcoming trip to NYC. We were telling them what we liked and wished we had done/not done etc. We've been twice and there are still things we'd love to do there! They looked at us and said ya'll should come! We laughed and brushed it off. Then we all looked at each other like could we??? It was all fun and games and we thought SURE why can't we go. They invited us, we would have a BLAST, we have hotel points to stay for FREE and parents who chomp at the bit to keep our kiddo. Seriously, what doesn't work about this. I mean we had 9 days to plan a trip that's normal...right?
We figured that if Trey could get his work days covered then the trip was meant to be. SO NOT TRUE!! LOL....The next Monday he got his shifts covered so we ordered plane tix, booked the hotel and began planning. It all seemed to good to be true AND it all went downhill as fast as it was planned. Cooper came down with a serious case of croup. We worked through that and he was on the way to being better by the time we would have left BUT i got that same serious case of croup. Unfortunately, there is not a whole lot you can do for it since it is viral. I suffered and the night before we were to leave I felt like roadkill and had not packed and oh yeah it snowed 19 inches in NYC. So, we made the only decision we could which was to cancel the hotel and thankfully we got all our points back, get plane ticket vouchers and sulk a little ;-) We still sent Cooper with the parents and let him spend some time in Florence as we had promised.
So, I guess I say all that to say that we still have some spark of spontaneity in us. It's just nice to know it's there when you have kids and get busy with life that you can stop and seize moments as they come. This one did not work out but we'll definitely try again and hope for better results. We spent the several nights and days resting and going on a few dates etc. It was nice and not all together a bad trade. Our goal was some time to spend with each other and hang out and relax. We definitely got that. Even though we did sulk a little we mostly focused on the positive which was the time we spent together and the things we got accomplished like clean cars, clean garage etc that are normally tough to do with a toddler running around you. Just another gentle reminder that we are just passengers and that we don't control the wheel ;-) We can plan all we want but at the end of the day it all works out as it is supposed to.
