Homemade Chalkboard: Shortcut version ;-)

Are you on Pinterest? Ha ha! If not then you have one less addiction in your life ;-)  Luckily for me I only have about an hr a week right now to devote to surfing the site and it is usually in between doing other things. So that takes care of the addiction but it is just long enough for me to find projects that I get excited about and can't wait to start . Right now with the limited time I have I focus on what I need to do most in my new home which is fill wall space. So, for now that is where my head is at for the next few weeks or so. I have made progress but still have to get something up on my one last totally blank wall and I wanted it to be special. Not something I just go and buy and hang up. There is nothing wrong with that but my style is really evolving and is becoming more natural is maybe the way to explain it? I love refinished furniture pieces that are worn and weathered and the rustic wood frames or wooden pieces. I love the barn wood frames from hobby lobby because they look natural and distressed but they did the work for me and I can either catch it 50% off or use a 40% off coupon and all I have to do is buy it & start my project;-)

The original idea to give credit where it is due came from Pinterest and The Creativity Exchange website and the original link is below. I did take a few shortcuts and wanted to share them just in case someone was interested. Her tutorial is great so I won't rehash it all. However, to cut out time I used spray on Primer (gray) in Krylon brand. Then I used 2 coats of the Chalkboard Spray Paint and it actually says Chalkboard on the label and it too was Krylon brand. I was nervous that it would not work but it did! BUT the disclaimer is that to get the chalk to show up vividly I had to take a damp rag and wipe it across where I wanted to write and the dampness helped my chalk stick.

So excited I have a new centerpiece to my big blank wall. I used the barn wood frame from Hobby Lobby and also got the spray paints there as well. Don't forget to take your 40% off coupon or pull it up on your phone and get the discount on one of your items that way. I posted the original pic to facebook and will come back and post it to the blog post later tonight but you can see it on facebook till then. When looking for spray paints at Wal Mart for another project I noticed they have Magnetic Paint to make a homemade magnet board that is the same basic concept. I am going to try this too but if you try it first let me know how it turns out!
