You know it's a bad day when......

at approximately 5:33 pm you are getting ready to put on some pajamas and get ready to chill for the entire evening and watch a new episode of The Office. This means no cleaning house or going to the gym. More importantly this means no cooking so I will do what any sane person who is not cooking does. I will eat Blue Bell Choc. Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream as a meal replacement ;) Yep, it was a bad day.

My current job has taught me many things that I would probably never come in contact at this point in my life without kids of my own just yet and taught me a ton about what to do in emergencies. It has helped me become as immune as I can possibly be to gross things ie: poo incidents, blood, throw up, etc....Being that we work with children it is important that we are all prepared for emergencies and trained in first aid (which we all are). When taking the training for us it is never a question of if we will use the skills it is a matter of when.

This brings me to today when I am peacefully sitting in my office and someone runs by grabbing an ice pack and yelling that a kid fell through the ceiling?!?!? This is a moment where your heart jumps into your throat because you are not sure what you are about to step out and see. Very long story short a kid crawled into a space on the mezzanine that he had to purposefully crawl to and stepped on to a grate and fell through to the bottom floor. He was ok just shocked and I think scared of getting in trouble by mom and dad. But.......there was a little girl below who bit the end of her tongue because of this incident somehow (we have not figured that part out yet). Not only did she bite it but she bit through the tip almost completely. We are talking major blood flow on the girl, her mom, smeared on the walls getting to the bathroom. It was a scene!!! So I get thrown an ice pack to take to the bathroom and head in seeing the blood on the wall. We get the ice pack on her mouth and more towels and a former nurse on staff soon took over. She got to a point where she was stable enough to get to the car with her mom and head to the emergency room where I am sure there will be stitches if that little piece can be saved. Whew!!! It was a stressful afternoon but amazing how we all just take our positions and stay calm during and then afterwards think about the things we have just dealt with or seen.

I am planning on hibernating this evening and coming down from the day and the business of the week. The calm before the storm shall we say. Tomorrow we are hosting 300 plus Kind-1st graders and having a press conference for about 100 or more in the midst of the craziness with the kids. My hope is that the day goes smooth and swift so that I can come home and take a nap before I have to return to sleep on the floor tomorrow night ;) When this week is over my world will be back to a more muted level of chaos I hope ;)

Oh me! That sounds exhausting! You deserved lots of ice cream after that day! You just never know what's going to happen when kids are involved. You are getting lots of training for when you have your own kids one day. :)

Good grief! That just made my tummy sink! I hate it when bad things happen. I know that they do and will, but it is just SO hard when they actually do! I hope that you were able to unwind easily! At least The Office was another great one! I loved it when Jim bent over to "tie his shoe"!!!
